“We are being transformed into the image of the Lord with ever-increasing glory” 2 Cor. 3:18
The history of the church
The Christian Church of Athens is self-governed and financially independent, based exclusively on the principles of the Bible. It is “baptized” in the charismatic movement of the Holy Spirit, giving emphasis on the anointed word of God that stems from a living fellowship with God. It is a church, which stands on the authority of the name of Jesus Christ and teaches the fulfillment of all of God’s names in the lives of all people, through the ministry and the gifts given to all the believers.
In November of 1992, 35 of us had the first service of the Christian Church of Athens. We decided to start a new local church under the pastoral care of Dimitris Lekkas.
The meetings for the first 2-3 months were held in a semi-finished building in Egaleo and from the very first meeting we saw the Lord at work among us!
The first church space rented, was in Armodiou 14, Athens, on the 2nd floor. A space of 176 sq.m. was the place where the church found itself making its first steps. The Lord added many souls and within the next 5 years, the church grew to a congregation of more than 150 adults.
The biggest and most significant change though was not in the number of people but in the hearts of people. During this time, the Lord revealed Himself to us in a way that we had never seen before. Many traditional religious elements gave way to the true fellowship with God, which produces the living faith. We witnessed the change in the lives of many people, as the blessing of God became the primary element. We saw them transform from people in need of help and edification to edified and rooted children of God. In 1995, we experienced a significant season, where the Lord manifested signs and works of the Holy Spirit among us in a very special way. During this season, God’s witness in our hearts built within us a vision from the Lord.
In 1998, we moved to our current location at Dipilou 7-9, near Koumoundourou square. This came with a simultaneous change in the spiritual for us. The Lord added to all that He was doing, the liberating work of the Holy Spirit to our souls, releasing us from all pressure and giving us a deep trust in Him. At the same time, the Lord started to increase our church’s influence in the community around us, as well as in the community of churches.
In 2008, God gave us the opportunity to start a new local church in Ano Glyfada with services every Sunday evening and with great potential to reach the eastern part of the Attica prefecture. Even though the church there is advancing at a slower pace, God’s witness is keeping our faith alive, as we expect a dynamic witnessing of the face and work of Christ in the world through this local church.
In our church facilities in the center of Athens, the last years, we are experiencing an increase in number beyond our space “capacity” and this is why we started to conduct double church services on Sunday mornings. At the same time, we envision moving to a larger space.
The use of the internet has increased the impact of the gospel to areas outside the Attica prefecture, finding great acceptance and opening doors of communication for the Lord.
We anticipate moving forward into living and experiencing all that the Lord has ahead for us! And even though problems never seize to exist, the Lord is strong and faithful!

The Vision of our Church
The Lord Jesus has put in our hearts His vision for our church. We know that there is a plan from the Lord for our church and that this plan has been revealed to us in at least its basic points. We realize that none of this can be fulfilled by our own willpower and that is why this vision remains in our hearts in the faith that the Lord will fulfill it “in us and with us”.
The vision is a 3fold:
Primarily, for the Lord to reveal His face (His personality) in the hearts of the believers, so that they will experience a living fellowship with Him, be led by Him in their personal lives and move in the ministry of the gospel with the anointing and the power of the Holy Spirit.
We anticipate a greater revelation in the teaching and preaching of the word of God, which will deliver the believers from religion, formalism, legalism, sterile logic, and that it will build blessed, holy, full lives with the presence, the guidance and the power of the Spirit of God. The Lord has bare witness that he will use us in other churches and denominations as well as beyond the geographical limits of Greece. That’s why we expect an increase of the impact of our church’s teaching, and a “Bible School” ministry that will provide to people, quickly and fully, the necessary revelation for a strong relationship with God and an anointed ministry.
Second for the witness of Jesus Christ to be given to the world.
We anticipate a special movement of the Holy Spirit with signs, wonders, healings and deliverances in the name of Jesus Christ, which will make many people give their heart to Christ. Based on the authority of the name of Jesus Christ we anticipate the manifestation of the apostolic, prophetic and evangelistic anointing of God as well as a manifestation of the gifts of the Spirit, so that the works of God’s love will become evident amongst the people. The Lord has given us a witness that we will have a more active media ministry of the gospel as well as a ministry in theaters, stadiums and that our church will grow greatly in the number of new believers.
Ultimetaly, for the Kingdom of God to be manifested in this country through God’s people that are called to fulfil His will in all levels and society areas.
We expect that the Lord will call His people and give them the “burden” to do His will, give them detailed guidance through His Spirit, and give them His anointing in order to serve Him not only within the church but mainly in the fields of politics, science, arts, religion, business world, and in every society area. The Lord has given us witness, that in the last days we will see an army of the “Sons of the Kingdom” that will not have a religious “dress up”. Instead, they will be everyday people with the calling of the Lord, as a “drive” in their hearts, getting into positions of influence and authority, in order to serve the Lord and fulfil His plans on this earth.
